Ports have a diversity of activities and a multitude of emissions sources; emissions from ships, diesel truck, forklifts, cranes, etc. Currently, there are no sector-level estimates of port air emission. However, EPA is working with AAPA to encourage individual ports to prepare emissions inventories, develop and implement emission reduction strategies, and measure progress against a baseline.
Currently, Northeast Ohio is in nonattainment of the Clean Air Act’s National Ambient Air Quality (NAAQS) health standards for ozone and fine particle pollution. The Port Authority has actively participated in the work of NOACA’s regional Air Quality Public Advisory Task Force and its committee and continues support the emission reductions strategies identified as part of the Task Force’s recommendations. More information on the Task Forces work on ozone reduction strategies can be found at http://www.noaca.org/aqpatf.html and at http://www.noaca.org/pm25aqtf.html for fine particle reduction strategies.
The Port of Cleveland is committed to helping the region reach attainment and will work to continue reducing emissions from the Port and its operations. Please review the Port’s emission inventory efforts, retrofit efforts, and emission reduction efforts.
