ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER
Overview: Responsible for the on-going development, management and implementation of the Port’s natural resource management program. Develops a strong agenda for the Port Authority to establish Cleveland as an environmentally sensitive region for water, air and land. Create partnerships with allied groups to help the Port Authority participate in development of the community’s river and lake waterfront. This position creates implements and maintains procedures, initiatives, and programs to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local statutes and regulations governing environmental issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Environmental Management systems to ensure compliance with environmental requirements, OSHA regulations, ISO 14001 standards, reduce environmental risk and improve environmental performance
- Provide leadership and coordination on water, energy and land issues
- Work with federal, state, and local agencies and elected officials on policy development
- Develop partnerships with allied groups on the development and protection of the river and lakefront
- Coordinates with other agencies at all governmental levels, including environmental and natural resources agencies and regulatory agencies to ensure Port understanding of and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Provide technical assistance and staff leadership on all aspects of environmental issues
- Define Port agenda on clean energy issues
- Monitors environmental compliance by Port tenants (regarding lease requirements and all governmental regulations)
- Assess the environmental impact of port operations and potential real estate purchases/acquisitions/development and make recommendations
- Reviews and analyze legislative and regulatory developments for potential impact on tenant operations and activities
- Assess reports and data compiled by contractors, consultants, and others to determine environmental impacts on Port operations
- Maintains records of all environmental activities, programs and compliance audits
- Interfaces with the public concerning environmental questions/policy/actions
- Represents the Port to various professional, regulatory and public organizations
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of new developments in environmental and Brownfields regulatory processes
- Participate in environmental outreach activities
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisor
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, environmental planning, resource management, biology, ecology, geology, engineering or related field
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in Environmental Resource Management, regulatory compliance, environmental management systems and program and policy implementation.
- Good communication skills – both oral and written. Able to communicate scientific and technical information effectively
- Excellent analytical ability
- Working knowledge of: Clean Water Act, National Environmental Policy Act ( Endangered Species Act, Historical Preservation Act), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), US Canadian environmental treaties/agreements
- Experience assisting with the design and implementation of environmental management systems
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Able to deal with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy
- Experience performing and/or leading supplier environmental audits
- Able to work independently
- Certification in Hazardous Material Management a plus
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Experience in environmental compliance, redevelopment and/or maritime a plus
- 10% Travel to various work sites
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle

MARITIME BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT/PROJECT MANAGER
Overview: Responsible to the Vice President of Maritime for the overall leadership, design, planning and implementation of the Port’s marketing and trade development programs, including marketing and sales to attract carriers and cargo shippers to the Port. This position is responsible for marketing and trade development budgets, advertising, proposals and negotiation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creates and implements short and long-range marketing and trade development plans for the Port. Responsible for market research, forecasts, trend analysis and business plan
- Research individual cargo opportunities, their present status and potential logistical alternatives. Evaluates transportation mode mixtures, performing competitive rate analysis to create cargo growth. Targets and calls on carriers and cargo shippers. Directs the sales and marketing effort and activities to secure new business. Keeps VP Maritime updated concerning all marketing and sales initiatives
- Develop alternative strategies for the pursuit of new cargo, estimating potential market share, revenue and expenses
- Coordinate and develop sales strategy with existing customers to promote growth
- Directs and manages the Port’s marketing and trade development budget, strategies, advertising and other requirements with responsibility for targeted commodities, ship-owner types and potential cargo flows
- Act as catalyst and resource to Port customers in making continual improvements in t heir transportation and distribution processes. Maintain regular customer contact to monitor customer satisfaction and resolve problems
- Coordinates and is responsible for day-to-day liaison with economic development associations, business groups, local public agencies, and other organizations
- Represents the Port to various community groups and trade associations
- Responds to customer and prospect rate and pricing inquiries and together with Vice President of Maritime and other senior managers, guides development of Port pricing decisions
- Makes presentations and represents the Port at events attended by prospective customers
- Coordinate and manage any projects assigned by supervisor
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisor
Job Requirements:
- 5-7 years experience in sales, business development and marketing. Experience in transportation, logistics/cargo solicitation, ports, steamship lines or stevedoring is a plus
- Experience conducting marketing and industry research
- B.A. or B.S.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills (both oral and written)
- Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

CORPORATE COUNSEL
Overview: Newly created position reporting to the President and CEO. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an organization with aggressive goals to strengthen and develop the region’s economy. Position will be a member of Senior Management Team directing and providing expert legal counsel on a variety of complex legal matters such as environmental, maritime and Brownfield issues, serve as key legal advisor on legislative issues, provide legal guidance on all major business transactions, including purchases, financing arrangements, sales, business structures, etc and perform duties of corporate counsel such as managing/directing external counsel, providing legal advice to Port Authority managers and interfacing with the Board of Directors. Some supervisory responsibility. Successful candidate will be a creative, highly motivated self-starter who is comfortable working hands-on in a team environment, has a deals orientation and 5-10 years in a generalist capacity. CHIEF DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Overview: Provide executive level development and implementation of plans to manage and supervise the activities and function of the Economic Development Department by establishing and implementing the strategic plan, developing/implementing initiatives, structure and procedures to facilitate significant economic development. The position will report to the CEO and will be a member of the Port’s Sr Leadership team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct and lead the strategic planning and market research process for the Development group to optimize opportunities in industrial development and special projects as requested.

Plan, facilitate, organize, implement, direct and review overall economic development programs aimed at major business sectors (healthcare, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, and logistics) ranging from market evaluation to program development including land assessment, land/site and infrastructure planning.

Interact with various partners (government, business groups, developers, real estate agents, financial institutions, and private sector) to promote economic development initiatives

Develop strategic plans for acquisition and development of new properties and programs to ensure complete development of Port properties. Perform analysis and generate reports on project feasibility and financial projects of leased/acquired property and facilities

Negotiates complex leases/sales terms and conditions with the specific ability to work with diverse customer needs.

Supervise the work of economic development and real estate managers

Provide market reconnaissance to Port Authority’s property interests to assure successful investments

Establish relationships and develop contacts with developers, manufacturers , investors, and site selection professionals in domestic and international markets

All aspects of marketing and investment promotion to assure success for Port Authority’s investments.

Develop and implement performance measures and other evaluation methods to ensure that strategic objectives are being met or that progress toward them is being met

Conducts analyses and research projects as necessary to provide timely, accurate and relevant information to Port decision makers on economic and market policy.

Plan and oversee the implementation of strategic marketing programs in support of the Port’s business development activities

Job Requirements:

10+ years experience in professional economic development and real estate development and knowledge of the financing tools and products which support such initiatives

Proven track record of managing business investment deals. Considerable experience in financial deal structuring.

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. MBA and/or Certification in Economic Development a plus
